The Penguin: HBO Release Trailer For Batman Spin-Off

HBO has released the first full trailer for The Penguin, confirming that the show will be released in the coming Autumn.

The eight-part spin-off series, starring Colin Farrell, takes place one week after the events of Matt Reeves' The Batman (2022). It charts the character's rise from something of a nobody to one of the most formidable and feared crime bosses in Gotham City. 

Farrell reprises his role from , while Reeves is involved as an executive producer.

Palm Springs' Cristin Milioti stars as Sofia Falcone. Sofia's father, Carmine Falcone, was killed by The Riddler in The Batman. Clancy Brown, Michael Zegen, and Michael Kelly also feature as Falcone and Marone crime family members. 

Rhenzy Feliz, Deirdre O'Connell, and Theo Rossi have also been cast in undisclosed roles. 

HBO has an ongoing distribution deal with Sky. As such, National World reports that The Penguin, which will be available exclusively through Max in the United States, will likely be available for streaming on Sky in the UK. 

The Penguin began filming on 1st March 2023, but was postponed during the SAG-AFTRA strike and resumed on 27th November. Filming wrapped on 17th February 2024, according to production designer Kalina Ivanov.

Joining Reeves as executive producers are Farrell, Dylan Clark,  Daniel Pipski, Adam Kassan, Lauren LeFranc, Bill Carraro, and Craig Zobel. Zobel will also direct the first three episodes.

The Penguin first appeared in Detective Comics #58, released in December 1941, making him one of the Batman's oldest adversaries. Since his comic book debut, he has been portrayed on screen previously by Burgess Meredith in Batman (1966), Danny DeVito in Batman Returns (1992), and Wayne Knight in Harley Quinn (2019-present). He is voiced by Nolan North in the Batman: Arkham video game series.

The Penguin is released on Max in Autumn 2024.
