Oscars 2024: Oppenheimer Triumphs With Seven Wins

The Oscars 2024 Oppenheimer

The 96th has seen Oppenheimer sweep the ceremony with seven award wins, scoring Cillian Murphy, Christopher Nolan, and Robert Downey Jr. their first-ever

Oppenheimer also scooped up Best Picture, the biggest award of the night, presented by Al Pacino.

In his acceptance speech, Nolan said “movies are just a little bit over 100 years old. We don't know where this incredible journey is going from here, but to know that you think that I'm a meaningful part of it means the world to me.”

Emma Stone picked up her second award for Best Actress for Yorgos Lanthimos' Poor Things, following her Oscars win for La La Land (2016). The film took home four prizes in total, including costume design and production design.

The Zone of Interest was recognised with two Oscars, while The Holdovers' Da'Vine Joy Randolph scooped up the prize for Best Supporting Actress. Anatomy of a Fall won Best Original Screenplay, American Fiction was honoured with Best Adapted Screenplay, and Godzilla Minus One received Best Visual Effects.

Ryan Gosling and Emily Blunt recognised stunt performers in a special tribute. The pair exchanged thoughts on the ‘Barbenheimer' phenomenon during their time on stage.

Performances opened with Billie Eilish's ‘What Was I Made For?' from Barbie – for which she won Best Song – followed by ‘A Song For My People' from Killers of the Flower Moon, Jon Batiste with ‘It Never Went Away' from American Symphony, and Becky G's ‘The Fire Inside' from Flamin' Hot.

Gosling rounded out the performances with ‘I'm Just Ken' from the Barbie soundtrack, for which several cast members returned.

Jimmy Kimmel led the night's proceedings, while special guests invited to give out Oscars in the various categories included Michelle Yeoh, Stephen Spielberg, and Jennifer Lawrence.
