Kinds of Kindness, the new film from the Oscar-nominated director Yorgos Lanthimos, has been given a Summer 2024 release date and a full casting announcement.
The release date for Kinds of Kindness has been announced as 21st June 2024. The announced ensemble cast includes Emma Stone, Willem Dafoe, and Jesse Plemons. Hong Chau, Joe Alwyn, Margaret Qualley, Mahmadou Athie, and Hunter Schafer are alsoset to star.
The announcement follows the Academy Awards success of Poor Things (2023), which won four Oscars including Best Actress for Emma Stone. Kinds of Kindness marks Stone and Lanthimos' third feature film collaboration, having also worked together on The Favourite (2018) and Poor Things. They also worked together on a short silent film, Bleat (2022).
Alwyn, Dafoe, and Qualley have also all worked with Lanthimos before.
Kinds of Kindness, previously entitled And, is an anthology film. In an interview with The Guardian, Lanthimos described the new project as “a contemporary film, set in the US – three different stories, with four or five actors who play one part in each story, so they all play three different parts. [So] it was almost like making three films.”
In an interview with Variety last month, Stone said “Yorgos feels like a lot of his process of working with people or putting people in his films has to do with who they are as a person. It's not just performance-based.”
The Greek director is also co-writing Kinds of Kindness alongside Efthimis Filippou. The pair have previously worked together on Dogtooth (2009), The Lobster (2015), and The Killing of a Sacred Deer (2017). The pair earned a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for The Lobster.
Kinds of Kindness is being distributed by Searchlight Pictures. The film is also a co-production between Film4, Element Pictures, and TSG Entertainment.
