Netflix has just released an intriguing new trailer for the upcoming South Korean original series Chicken Nugget, about a woman who is turned into a piece of fried chicken.
The new show, which describes itself as a “crispy-fried comedy,” is based on the Naver webtoon of the same name. Chicken Nugget sees Choi Min-ah (Kim Yoo-jung) walk into an experimental machine only to be inadvertently turned into a chicken nugget. It is then left to intern Go Baek-joong (Ahn Jae-hong), who has a crush on the previously non-nuggified Min-ah, to help her father turn her back into a human. But in their efforts to do so, they uncover unexpected secrets whilst developing an increasingly strong bond during their de-nuggification efforts.
Following performances in Bang Woo-ri's teen romance 20th Century Girl (2022) and Kim Tae-hyoung's The 8th Night (2021), Chicken Nugget's 24-year-old rising star Kim Yoo-jung has already earned the nickname of the “nation's first love.”
The series is helmed by Lee Byeong-heun, director of the 2019 action comedy Extreme Job. The film was successful in South Korea, making ₩91.5 billion at the domestic box office and becoming one of the highest-grossing films in South Korean history. Extreme Job‘s Ryu Seung-ryong also stars in the new series as Min-ah's father, Choi Seon-man. Beyong-heun has also recently written and directed the Korean TV series Be Melodramatic (2019).
Netflix is releasing several new K-dramas in the coming months, most notably the much anticipated second season of Squid Game. The limited series by Hwang Dong-hyuk became the most-watched show in Netflix's history when it premiered in 2021. Other upcoming releases include the third season of the apocalyptic action series Sweet Home and a second season of Gyeongseong Creature, written by Kang Eun-kyung.
Chicken Nugget is released on Netflix on 15th March 2024.
