The best part of Christmas is without a doubt the food and seeing it on our screens in our favourite festive films usually makes us wish we'd gotten better snacks in! So, whether the turkey went to plan or turned out dry, here are some of the most memorable food moments from our beloved Christmas movies.
Home Alone 2 (1992)
The Home Alone movies are destined to be rewatched by generations to come and in terms of food you can't get much more iconic than Kevin McCallister and his cheesy pizza accompanied by a glass of Coca-Cola served in a champagne flute, in his very own limousine for one!
And luckily for us, we can do more than just watch in jealously because The Plaza Hotel offers the ultimate Home Alone experience. Guests of the hotel can book one large pizza in a limousine ride around New York City visiting the films shooting locations and an ice-cream sundae with whipped cream, maraschino cherries, chocolate, caramel, and raspberry sauce to top it all off. Definitely something to add to the bucket list.
The Bear Season 2 Episode 6 “Fishes” (2022)
Not your classic Festive movie but arguably the most important episode of Paramount's season two of ‘The Bear' – which if you haven't watched you must. This is the Christmas episode we were treated to Jamie Lee Curtis playing the matriarch of the Berzatto family. Chaotic from the get-go, this star-studded episode reveals a roadmap explanation for each character's emotional turbulence because lets face it, not all families get along on Christmas day and not all dinners go to plan – even if your son is an up and coming renowned chef.
Elf (2003)
One of the most notable characters of Will Ferrell career, having grown up in the North Pole, Buddy the elf never quite adjusted to the American diet so for breakfast it was spaghetti seasoned with maple syrup (of course) chocolate chips, marshmallows, and candy. And, if like me you've ever wondered if Ferrell had to actually eat all the food in this movie, the answer is yes. In an interview with Back Film, Ferrell revealed that because of the extreme sugar intake of Buddy the Elf, during the production of the movie, he struggled to sleep!
The Polar Express (2004)
Who knew animated food and drink could look so good? Adapted from Chris Van Allsburg classic Christmas story, The Polar Express hot chocolate is synonyms with cosy winter evenings in the build up to Christmas. If only all hot chocolate was served by tap dancing waiters and a singing Tom Hanks!
A Christmas Story (1983)
One of the most beloved Christmas comedies with a script inspired by stories originally published in Playboy magazine. The Parker families Christmas dinner was eaten by non-other than “785 smelly hound dogs” resulting in the less traditional trip to their local Chinese restaurant for supper. The change in plan however turns out to be a sweet lesson, that it doesn't matter what you eat on Christmas day, it's the people you spend the day with that counts.
