BAFTA Television Craft Awards 2023: House of Dragon’s sound team on their nomination and Season 2

2 min read

Most of us didn't get enough Game of Thrones action — especially after the Season 8 ending. Thankfully, the spinoff series has once again brought the goods, including a soundtrack that's epic enough to unnerve the biggest of beasts. FILMHOUNDS spoke to the show's sound team at the Television Craft Awards to find out more about their nomination.

(SOUND TEAM INCLUDES ALASTAIR SIRKETT, DOUG COOPER, MARTIN SEELEY, PAULA FAIRFIELD, TIM HANDS, ADELE FLETCHER)

What does it mean to have your work be BAFTA nominated?

Yeah, it's great. We're very honoured. It's amazing for our work to be recognised. We put a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into the show. Let's see what's night brings!

Do you think it's true that you know that the success of a show depends on the dynamic and connection that are cast and crew have?

Definitely, and it also depends on the strength of the soundtrack.

Your work is springboarding from a main series —  is there ever a sense of pressure from a fan base that already holds certain expectations?

Yeah. It was massive. We knew what we had to do. With expectations, you never know how it's going to go as a series. Is it going to be as good? Is it going to be different? And then of course, there's a lot of pressure on us to make sure that things are different yet cohesive, but it's also fun and good on its own terms.

You have a second season as well on the cards — can you tell us what's to come?

We are kept completely in the dark until later this year!

House of the Dragon Season 1 is available to stream now.
