BAFTA Television Craft Awards 2023: Andor’s VFX team on COVID, Nominations, and Season 2

Nominated in the special, visual, and graphic effects category at the 2023 , FILMHOUNDS caught up with 's VFX carpet to find out more about what went on behind the highly succesful series.

(Team includes MOHEN LEO, TJ FALLS, RICHARD VAN DEN BERGH, JEAN-CLÉMENT SORET, INDUSTRIAL LIGHT & MAGIC)

What does it mean to now be able to say that your work is nominated?

It's fantastic. Season 1 was such a challenge because we were having to navigate everything around COVID lockdowns, and actually most of Andor ended up being filmed or worked on over here. It feels like a particularly special honor to be recognised by a British institution, given how instrumental the U.K. was to making the show.

When you go into making a new branch of the franchise, do you ever feel blindsided by the pressure and opinions of those who are watching?

Lots of us have been working with for a long time, so really things are dependent on feeling so comfortable with the team you're working with. You really build up those long-term dynamics and connections with the rest of the crew.

Do you think we all appreciate the craft behind the camera?

What people often don't realise is just how many people it takes to do even the smallest of things. It can be very deceiving!

Season 2 is on the cards — is there anything you can tell us?

Sorry, no spoilers allowed… but we can tell you that we're extremely busy!

Andor Season 1 is now streaming on Plus.
