Not sure what to get the movie lover in your family for Christmas this year? Well look no further than the Back to the Future vs Knight Rider Scalextric Race Set.
Prepare for the ultimate Scalextric race battle as you can chose between two iconic heroes. Do you want to race as Michael Knight in K.I.T.T. or would you rather be Marty McFly in his time travelling DeLorean.
One of the best parts about this race set is that it features highly detailed cars that really do look like the real deal. If you look inside the DeLorean, you can clearly see the driver is Marty McFly in his iconic outfit and orange life-preserver and it's very clearly David Hasselhoff's Michael Knight sat inside and driving K.I.T.T.
As well as the cars, this set features everything you need to begin playing including controllers and over 5 metres worth of track- which includes a crossover. It's all very easy and quick to assemble meaning you can get straight into playing with it. The anticipation builds very quickly when you're building- I know mine certainly was- as you simply snap the track pieces together following the very easy to follow instructions, and in a few minutes, you're ready to race these two 80s icons against each other.
The crossover in the track is by far the most fun part. It causes plenty of crashes sending the cars flying off the track providing lots of fun. You might expect that after a certain number of crashes the cars stop working and it all begins to break but that's not true- or at least I haven't reached that number yet and I've had LOTS of crashes. The quality of the set, and of the cars in particular, is excellent as after many crashes, it still works and the cars drive just as well as before.
And what's more, the cars light up. When you press down on the controllers and the cars start driving, K.I.T.T.'s iconic red lights shine and the DeLorean's front and rear headlights kick into gear making for yet another level of interactivity and even more fun.
The Back to the Future vs Knight Rider Scalextric set is a great gift for anyone that's into either Back to the Future or Knight Rider– or even better, both- making a nice change of scene from the generic race cars that come in other Scalextric sets. However, the set doesn't quite provide enough power for 1.21 gigawatts, nor does the car reach 88mph so anyone hoping for a real time-travelling DeLorean might be a little disappointed.
The only real problem I had with this set was that the DeLorean was definitely much faster than K.I.T.T. Whichever track you put them on and however hard you squeezed the controller, the DeLorean was always going that little bit faster and was always likely to win. There's still all the excitement and jeopardy as the cars race around the corner in case they fall off, and the crossover in the centre of the track still gets lots of crashes, no matter which car is faster, it's just slightly disappointing for whoever's racing as Knight Rider that they will always just be that little bit slower than Marty McFly.
For fans of 80s pop-culture this Scalextric set is sure to be great fun, and there's enough entertainment provided in this race set for a short while. The Back to the Future and Knight Rider cars are for sure the highlight of the set and make it stand out that little bit more than other Scalextric sets as it is good fun to see your favourite movie and TV cars race around a little track in your living room. Whilst there's not hours and hours of fun, it's an enjoyable and cool toy that will go down well this Christmas.
