Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar (DVD Review)

Hold onto your culottes everyone, because are finally releasing the movie of the year on DVD and Digital! 's latest comedy released on Digital Platforms back in February at a premium rental price and is now available to buy on platforms such as Amazon Prime Video, Google Play Movies, iTunes/Apple TV and many other services where you buy your movies.

The hit comedy will be releasing on DVD in the UK next week and we highly recommend you checking it out. The film follows best friends , who leave their small midwestern town for the first time to go on vacation in Vista Del Mar, Florida, where they soon find themselves tangled up in adventure, love, and a villain's evil plot to kill everyone in town.

The film itself flew under the radar a little due to the fact that there were so many other comedies releasing at the same time that were very similar to Barb and Star. However, Josh Greenbaum's comedy may be the best of them all. The film features energetic performances from co-creators and co-stars (Wonder Woman 1984 and Bridesmaids) and (Bad Moms) that had this critic gushing with laughter from beginning to end. Both actresses embody their characters perfectly and are so likeable in their roles.

is also fantastic as Edgar Pagét. He plays a spy on a top secret mission whose assignment gets tangled up with Barb and Star's vacation in Vista Del Mar. He has some fantastic moments to outshine his co-stars. Dornan is also given a fairly relatable arc that is quite impactful. Yes, he is a top secret spy but it was surprisingly easy to connect with his character.

Written by Mumolo and Wiig, Barb and Star's screenplay is also really solid. It allows these characters to deliver joke-after-joke but also have moments which have emotion and add depth to the characters and plot. However, the film features many gag lines which will make the audience laugh harder than in any other film in recent memory; one in particular which features Edgar (Dornan) singing on a beach, had us giggling a lot harder than in any other movie recently.

Finally, the cherry on top are the special features that you will receive if you purchase the movie on physical media. These include:

  • Audio Commentary
  • Deleted Scenes
  • Barb & Star: Making Life a Little Brighter
  • Barb & Star: Casting in Paradise
  • Barb & Star Go To Vista Del Mar Fashion Show
  • Reason #497 Why We're Friends
  • The Visionary Sets of Barb & Star
  • Emotional Dancing with Jamie Dornan

is too bonkers and hyper-active to not enjoy and it's filled with energy that you do not see in most comedies nowadays! Kristen Wiig and Annie Mumolo are fantastic as our leads and I applaud them for writing and starring in one of 2021's finest movies thus far.

Lionsgate UK's Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar is available to purchase from Digital Platforms now and will be released on DVD on April 12th in the UK
