Riddle me this: who’s the new face of Dr. Robotnik?

After the recent casting of Westworld and X-Men‘s James Marsden as the anthropomorphic Sonic the Hedgehog, first-time feature director Jeff Fowler’s new film is starting to pick up speed. The adaptation of the successful Sega video-game franchise – set to be a blend of Live-Action and Animation – has also seen Tika Sumpton cast as the female lead, although her role has yet to be disclosed.

But while that’s all well and good, the most exciting cast of all may have come this week, as it was revealed that is joining the cast as Doctor ‘Eggman’ Robotnik, the rotund mad scientist who has plagued Sonic and his animal buddies across the range of games.

Carrey meanwhile, has been somewhat absent from the film scene over the past few years. Although he featured in two films in 2016, and a documentary last year, his last big budget features were Dumb and Dumber To and Kick-Ass 2 in 2014 and 2013, respectively. Could this be Carrey’s return to the spotlight? We’ll find out when…

Sonic the Hedgehog speeds into cinemas on November 15th 2019.

Solo screenwriter swings into action on Indiana Jones

Jonathan, Meg and Lawrence Kasdan / Picture credit: Anthony Jones

Like father, like son.

Just as Lawrence Kasdan made his breakout writing Empire Strikes Back, before transitioning to Indiana Jones, his son, , now seems to be following in his footsteps. While the younger Kasdan did have a little more experience than his father did in their respective pre-Star Wars careers, he still seems to be something on an unknown quantity, having written and directed two films that received mixed reviews and worked on a couple of TV shows. Fortunately, his latest film,   (written alongside his father) seems to have been generally well received by fans, despite its failings at the Box Office.

Now, in the wake of former scribe David Koepp departing to work on directing his own Blumhouse flick, the younger Kasdan is taking over writing duties on the upcoming Indiana Jones 5, proving that Lucasfilm appreciates his work, regardless of what the numbers say. Unfortunately, this change in writers means that the film will once more be delayed. Hopefully, the schedules of star Harrison Ford and director Steven Spielberg will still align whenever the script is finally finished.

Indiana Jones 5 was previously slated for July 19th 2019, then July 10th 2020 – it’s current release date is unknown.

What on Earth is ?

Nicholas Cage / Picture courtesy of RLJE Films

Ending on a high, here’s a shout out to all those Nicholas Cage fans.

Cage has a pretty busy year ahead of him, with six films on his 2018 schedule. These include thrillers Looking GlassThe Humanity Bureau and Between Worlds, as well as the action film 211 and the animated Teen Titans Go! To the Movies. But before all of that, Cage will be starring in Mandy, an action-horror directed by Panos Cosmatos and co-starring Andrea Riseborough as the titular Mandy.

This week, a trailer debuted, and to be honest, it looks fucking mental:

Not only does it look absolutely insane, but it’s also getting pretty great reviews thus far, with an 8.1/10 on Rotten Tomatoes and 83/100 on Metacritic. Looks like Mandy will definitely be one to watch.

Mandy slashes into cinemas on September 14th 2018.
