There were a few details that those following the steady stream of rumours, leaks and revelations surrounding Thor: Ragnarok knew were going to happen over the course of the seventeenth entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Cate Blanchett’s Hela, the Goddess of Death, would show up to wreak havoc, Chris Hemsworth’s Thor would be transported to a junkyard planet where he would be forced into gladiatorial combat with the Hulk, and Asgard would probably end up a little worse for wear. That last part was particularly obvious, considering in Norse myth, Ragnarok is the story of the endtimes of the Gods.
But in today’s newly released teaser trailer for Thor: Ragnarok, we’re given a quick set up for the film, which see’s Mjolnir destroyed, Asgard obliterated and Thor transported to a distant world in quick succession, confirming everything we thought we knew, but still leaving the majority of the film a complete mystery.
Furthermore, while the tone looks like it won’t be as foreboding as you might expect a film about the end times to be, it also doesn’t look as overtly comedic as you might expect, considering comedy director Taika Waititi is at the helm.
Imprisoned on the other side of the universe, the mighty Thor finds himself in a deadly gladiatorial contest that pits him against the Hulk, his former ally and fellow Avenger. Thor’s quest for survival leads him in a race against time to prevent the all-powerful Hela from destroying his homeworld and the Asgardian civilisation.
Directed by Taika Waititi and starring Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Cate Blanchett, Tessa Thompson, Karl Urban and Jeff Goldblum, Thor: Ragnarok flies into cinemas on the 27th October 2017.
