It’s no longer unusual for films to seek out unconventional forms of advertising ahead of the release date. A few weeks ago, the upcoming Jack Reacher sequel released an online game to get people hyped. Marvel Studios on the other hand, tends to play to their strengths by releasing prelude comics that focus on the characters of their upcoming movies.
Now, the Ben Affleck-starring The Accountant seems to be taking a page out of the latters book, with this new YouTube based digital comic that asks the question ‘who is The Accountant?’
Starring Ben Affleck, Anna Kendrick, J.K. Simmons, Jon Bernthal, Jeffrey Tambor and John Lithgow, The Accountant follows Christian Wolff (Affleck) is a math savant with more affinity for numbers than people. Behind the cover of a small-town CPA office, he works as a freelance accountant for some of the world’s most dangerous criminal organizations. With the Treasury Department’s Crime Enforcement Division, run by Ray King (Simmons), starting to close in, Christian takes on a legitimate client: a state-of- the- art robotics company where an accounting clerk (Kendrick) has discovered a discrepancy involving millions of dollars. But as Christian uncooks the books and gets closer to the truth, it is the body count that starts to rise.
The Accountant is out in cinemas November 4th 2017.
